Before you agree to anything, ask
Use these to compare providers too.
- Who exactly will do my treatment?
- What is their license, and can I look it up?
- What training do they have with this device or product?
- Is this treatment suitable for my skin type and health history?
- How many visits will I likely need?
- What aftercare do you recommend?
- What is your plan if there is a complication?
- What will the whole thing cost, all in?
A short prep list
- Your medications, including vitamins and supplements.
- Health conditions and any recent changes.
- Allergies and past reactions to products or treatments.
- Past cosmetic procedures, with rough dates.
- Your questions for the provider.
- A notebook or phone to record answers and the quoted cost.
Having this ready helps a licensed provider decide what is suitable for you, and it means you are less likely to leave with an unanswered question.
When to pause
A consultation should feel like an exchange of information. If it feels like a sales pitch, take a step back.
Watch for pressure to commit on the spot, a treatment offered with no consultation, unclear answers about who does the work, or a reluctance to write down the total cost. Each of these is a reason to wait. To look up a license, search the website of the relevant Massachusetts state licensing board by the person's name.
